About Screened Music
Screened Music is a network of composers working professionally in the realms of television and film. It was created to celebrate excellence in screen composition and profile the ongoing achievements of the UK's most innovative and successful film & television composers.
The network also provides a community for screen composers, opening the lines of communication via online forums and facilitating collaborative processes via an online skills area. The Screened Music website also provides a platform for the discussion of contemporary production music, with a review system designed to highlight exceptional work.
Since it's launch in 2007 Screened Music has grown to include over 90 composers, many of whom are behind much of the music and sounds heard on television today. Composer members are invited by an Industry Panel which includes representatives from the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, London Film School, Royal College of Music and leading music commissioning agencies such as Boost Music, Cool Music and Jimmy Turner.
Screened Music composers are separated into three categories, referred to as Composer Classifications.
Highly regarded emerging composers, rising to the forefront of the British film and television music industry.
Well established composers working regularly in television or feature film. Published and with major broadcast credits.
Critically acclaimed, award winning or world-renowned composers, working in high-end feature film or television.
Composer classifications are listed in all Composer Profiles. You can search for composers by classification, member rating or specialising genre using the Advanced Composer Search.
Screened Music runs several events each year, ranging from professional development workshops to industry screenings. Previous events include a series of technical workshops for composers run in partnership Apple, a film and documentary screening showcase run in partnership with BAFTA and a series of lectures for composers on Orchestration at London's Riverside Studios.
Created in 2009 to facilitate collaboration between composer members, the Collaboration Board allows composers to source musicians, space, equipment and other creative expertise required for their projects. The Collaboration Board also allows professionals from all areas of film and television music to offer their skills and services to the industry.
Joining Screened Music as a Composer Member
There are two ways in which a composer can join screened music.
1. If you are an award-winning or established composer with professional credits please email info@screenedmusic.co.uk with further details of your work and a link to your website (or equivalent web page where your music can be heard).
2. If you are a recent graduate or emerging composer without industry credits, you can apply for membership via the monthly audition.
