Biography
Born in London, Andy started playing the piano at the age of four and aspired to be a concert pianist. He had given his first radio and TV broadcasts by the age of eleven, however in his early teens, an interest in composition sparked a change of direction and although continuing classical studies, he developed his skills in rock, jazz and popular music. Having turned down a scholarship to the RCM, he studied at Keele University graduating with a degree in Music and Electronics. Andy studied composition and studio techniques with the late Tim Souster whilst pursuing an interest in jazz with Professor Cecil Lytle from the Juilliard School of Music. After graduating, Andy started writing for the De Wolfe Production Music Library. His first album ‘Mirage’ brought worldwide acclaim and he was soon sought after as a composer for TV and advertising. During the Eighties Andy composed music for many ITV series and some of the UK’s best known advertising campaigns including the ‘Oxo Family’ with Linda Bellingham, ‘Websters Bitter’ with Cleo Rocos, ‘Birds Eye Menu Masters’, and the classic ‘After Eight’ ad where Albert Einstein and Marilyn Monroe are entertained by Liberace. Central Television made a short documentary film about Andy’s work at this time. After great success in the American TV and film market during the early Nineties, in order to spend more time with a growing family, Andy decided to move to the countryside and to concentrate on production music at his purpose built private studio. However an interest in World Music saw him writing and producing a number of tracks for the international best selling album ‘One World’ which achieved No.3 in the UK charts. He also contributed music to the Imax natural history Film ‘Wolves’ in 1999. More Recent work includes period music on the Academy Award nominated documentary feature ‘My Architect’, The Mambo title music to the ITV series ‘It Shouldn’t happen to a….’, and a song on a top 20 album in Sweeden. Recent commercials include; Scholl ’Party Feet’, ‘Terry’s Chocolate Orange’ with Dawn French, and ‘Fairy’ cleaner with Ainsley Harriot. Currently he has the Britannia 'Fair' ads and is playing jazz piano on the song 'Sweet is the Air' on the latest 'Surf' advert. Writing his 61st album for De Wolfe, and with thousands of broadcasts every year in all continents, Andy is probably one of the most successful production music composers in the world. I love this. It is so calming and relaxing and invokes images of sunshine and long, lazy days for me,- much needed after this summer in the UK!

There is little more I can add to what has already been said about this piece. Orchestral writing of the very highest order with wonderful, evocative themes. Great stuff!

I really like the reverse piano loops in this one. Sets up a great backing for a very useful track.

I have to agree with Paul on this one, that syhth whistle sound is so distinctive. The rest of the track is so beautifully done, I would love to hear it re-recorded with real whistling or something else instead.

Despite some valid points made already, I really thought this was a very effective track. it would be a pity if the meaning of words, and copyright law were to completely stunt creativity. Yes, it is all too easy to sample and mess about with wonderful and exotic ethnic material, but when it is done well to produce a sonically interesting track......

A super track full of energy with some great percussion sounds. very well produced with a good sense of tension

A powerful track with a strong theme, left me wanting to hear more.

A potentially good jazzy track, marred by the use of sampled drum sounds. Much better samples than these are now available. Good sax performance

This piece has some lovely compositional ideas with a good build and variety of ominous colours. If only the violin at the start could be real! It would be a terrific track with live instruments.

Yeah! Nice backround groove track with a uplifting feel and good build. Would think it should do well in a library.

Interesting minmalist rhythmic backround and some nice wind/brass phrases.Perhaps more could be done with the voice sample but I like this a lot.

Good production and some nice organic sounds but lacks anything to make it stand out from the crowd musically. Could have featured the gamalan-like percussion more however i feel that the panel ratings were generally too low for what is a very competent track

Great energy and played with real attitude by top musicians! Some nice Hammond licks, fun lyrics, what more could you want for a theme tune?

Well, what can one say? Quite superb with masterful orchestration. John is certainly one of my first choice players. Lovely stuff!

Quite superb! Wonderful recordings manipulated in such a way as to sustain sonic interest throughout. Music concrete still has much to offer.

A well put together track with just enough going on to avoid the repetition becoming monotonous. Good use of velocity programming/playing of the harp sound to give variation and depth. A very effective track!

Some lovely sounds and textures although I preferred it before the track became too busy. Also, the reverse, heavily panned sounds just become a bit too predictable and over-used before the end. very chilling however!

Once again this does not easily fit into the mould of 'screened music' but as a bit of light-hearted entertainment its pretty cool! Well played with a lovely easygoing feel.

very effective atmospheric short piece utilising the currently very popular sort of 'romantic minimalist' style. i would imagine this working very well in the context given

Effective if a little sentimental, but often a scene calls for this kind of treatment. Get the tissues ready! Nicely handled orchestral cue sets the mood beautifully.

Yes, this has a really classy, subtle and contemporary feel. Will do very well I expect.

I Agree with James on this. The peice is sensitive and well scored, very impressive for a first attempt and I would say considerably more interesting and well crafted than other peices that have had far higher ratings on this site. I don' think this was ever intended to be a title track, and I imagine it would work very well with the images without being too intrusive, something much saught after by the creatives on the visual side of things! Well done Anne!

A clever, naturalistic feel-good piece which I am sure does the job really well.

Dark and moody with building tension towards the end. Fits the bill exactly as described.

Well, quite superb! One of the best 'electronic' scorings I have heard on the site. Using 'state-of-the-art' sample libraries coupled with a very natural feel for orchestration, you have produced a piece with considerable musical integrity and emotional power. Well done Luke!

A subtle underscore with a nice sense of movement. This worked very well with the images.

Great title! Suitably chilling and the second cue made me jump! The only downside is the use of the same old samples, but there again, I use them so I can't really criticize. I guess those of us in the industry are bound to recognise some of the sounds but it does not necessarily detract from the effectiveness of the track.

Yes this really deserves to be listened to. Very atmospheric and beautifully static but with subbtle changes of texture maintaining interest throughout. A little reminiscent of Simon Jeffes and the Penguin Cafe orchestra but much darker. Excellent!

This is great! Beautifully played and stylistically excellent. Dare I say it would make a lovely French brie for the cheeseboard?!(I mean in the best possible sense!).

This is excellent! The brief has allowed plenty of scope here and there is wonderful use of orchestral colour, space and dynamics. Quite a few composers mentioned already in other reviews, did I also detect a little nod to Carl Orff? This is top professional work!

One of the best ways to learn any trade is by copying the masters! This succeeds very well in attaining that big-screen, action movie sound although perhaps without the budget! Now you need to move on from what you have learned and inject your own personality!
