Anthem by Film & TV ComposerTony Patterson

I really like this track. Great memorable hook! Good use of "tripling" the melody line (strings/choir/brass). For some reason I was reminded of Toto the 80s band ... don't know why; it could be the brass. Nice breakdown too. The main hook was probably repeated slightly too much for other applications, but for a sports track it would work nicely.

A Promising Lead by Film & TV ComposerAnne Nikitin

Great sound. Love the production. You set a really nice bed for the tension and action. I would love to see this to picture. Did you use Symphobia by any chance for the riser? It works well; but I feel it's just a bit too familiar now since every trailer out there has a Symphobia riser on it. You could try mixing some FX from different libraries together to get a different sound ... or use WIVI brass to create the brass FX. (just an idea ;-) ). Loved it!!

The Sunshine Girl - Title by Film & TV ComposerEwan Clark

Very nice indeed, excellently composed and produced ... a bit too obviously Thomas Newman. Although it's the perfect style for this application :-)

Lovely piece! Really interesting instrumentation ... great mix. Real shame this piece wasn't used! 'temp love' is a killer.

Hell Hath - End Credits by Film & TV ComposerEwan Clark

Very good sound indeed! I like the phasing chord progression. Would love to hear this developed into a longer theme.

Thunder barracks by Film & TV ComposerDov Waterman

Great full sound. The vocals really add a believability to the mockup! I love the rhythmic section, it's not too busy but chugs along nicely. The woodwind near the end seems a bit out of place, possibly just the sample library quality. But overall a really nice piece!

War Flowers by Film & TV ComposerJonathan Vincent

Really beautiful. I love the pace, there's momentum, but not driven. It opens up, but not too much. Well balanced writing and a reminiscence of Saving Private Ryan and The Pacific.

Firsthand: Encounter cue 2M1 by Film & TV ComposerStu Kennedy

Thanks for your advice guys ... yes I agree this could be improved greatly, although I only had 2-3 hours to do it in for the client, so I had to work fast, and as a result lost out on quality. Randy: yes, sorry, my notes were incomplete, they were truncated by SMN (I probably went over 500 characters) ... and I'd actually left cue 2M2 on the end of my track by mistake :-) The first cue ends where the tension builds as the assassin approaches a wounded target and it goes silent just before he shoots him point blank (nice)! It cuts to our hero running away. That's the end of 2M1. The second cue is the hero arriving at an old friends house after a narrow escape.

Feature Comment

"It is indeed offensive to be told to work for free (rarely do producers ask if it is acceptable). However, the choices are radically limited: if one doesn't compose (/record/mix) for free, one does not......"
