Film / TV track In to Work (from 'Mossley Mill') by composer Robert Jarvis

Audio:
Context: 'In to Work' is part of a collection of compositions that were created in response to a commission to celebrate the life of a Flax Mill in Northern Ireland.
As part of my preparation for the composition, I spent quite a bit of time in the area, working with local students, recording a nearby working mill in action, and interviewing John, Lizzie and Teenie - three people who used to work at Mossley when it was in its prime.

I like this very much - the 'loom' sounds are just right and the sampled voice works well with the instrumental music - an intriguing track which holds the interest.

An intriguing piece that is well crafted and imaginative - which is a breathe of fresh air. Not exactly "mainstream" but could find a niche.

Very interesting. I assume this is a performance piece. The repetitive percussive machine sounds work well. Something bothered me a bit about the way the voice samples were used. The repetition of lines was perhaps unnecessary and made me think of them more as musical device than a an archival record that brought authenticity to the piece. Sorry, was that a bit Newsnight Review!

Interesting minmalist rhythmic backround and some nice wind/brass phrases.Perhaps more could be done with the voice sample but I like this a lot.

Very interesting - I like this. The repeated vocal phrase at the end struck me as very poignant in view of how hard a life it was working in the mill industry

Imaginative and original very engaging and yet somehow very sad. Love the use of the mechanical sounds and the de-constructed municipal brass band. I'm sure would work wonderfully with images from the time.

This is great free-standing music, but it's not film/screened music, so therefore hasn't been through the rigour of composing to picture and collaboration with a director etc. So if rating as a musical piece i would indeed give it a high rating, but as film music it's too busy. I guess it would work if accompanying stills?
